To start our Tangier: From the Coast to the Desert route, we will start at the scheduled time with the reception by our guide at the port or airport of Tangier. We will make a short visit to Tangier where we can see the beach from the main streets of the new town and stop at the Caves of Hercules and Cape Spartel, the northern tip of the African continent.
We will then start our route towards the small coastal town of Asilah. The walls surrounding the city were built in the 15th century by Alfonso V of Portugal. Ancient cannons can still be found in the sea area. The Sea Gate, next to the square Portuguese tower that dominates the entire city, is located in Sidi Ali ben Hamdush Square, the interior of which is used for exhibitions.
Right by the sea is the Spanish-Moorish style mansion, the El Raisuni Palace, which is now a Palace of Culture and houses the Cultural Museum. The medina is made up of very clean and quiet white houses with very colorful murals, the street lighting is original and the pavement is the work of local artists. Right by the sea, an old Muslim cemetery stands out with colorful ceramic tombs and the mausoleum of Sidi Ahmed el-Mansur, a Saadi who reconquered the city after the Battle of the Magi. Free time. Hotel accommodation.
After breakfast, we will head to the capital, Rabat. Upon arrival in Rabat, we will visit the Kasbah of the Oudayas, a former military fortress that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012. The citadel houses one of the first palaces of the Alawite dynasty that still rules the country today, as well as the famous monumental gate Bab el-Kébir.
We will then visit the Hassan Tower. On the esplanade, we will see a minaret and a row of columns that are the remains of an unfinished mosque. The mausoleum of Mohammed V, the first king of independent Morocco, was also built on the esplanade of the mosque. His son and successor Hassan II, the father of the current king, is also buried here. At the end, you will have free time. Hotel accommodation.
After breakfast, our journey begins to the Roman city of Volubilis and the mountain town of Moulay Idriss. Lunch in Meknes, then a tour of the city walls, imperial granaries and stables. Overnight at the hotel in Fes.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will join a guided tour to explore the places of historical and cultural interest, including the Koutoubia Minaret, the Saadian Tombs, the beautiful Bahia Palace and the Ben Youssef Koranic School. To end the morning, you will walk through the narrow streets of the Medina where you will have the chance to admire the various artisans at work before reaching the famous Djemaa el Fna square.
Lunch is free and in the afternoon you can visit the Majorelle Garden and take a short tour of Guéliz, the new town of Marrakech, at your leisure. After the leisurely dinner, it is a good time to stroll around the square and watch the magicians, storytellers, tooth pullers and food sellers. Overnight at the hotel.
You will be picked up from the hotel and drive towards the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N'Tichka pass. There we will make several stops to enjoy the beautiful panoramic views and take photos of the Berber villages camouflaged in the colour of the earth.
We will then head south to reach the town of Ait Ben Haddou, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. This spectacular setting has been the setting for countless famous films such as: Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, Gladiator, Obelix or Game of Thrones. We will have lunch in the village and then continue to Ouarzazate, known as the "Gateway to the Desert".
In Ouarzazate, the Kasbah of Taourirt is worth mentioning. We continue towards the Rose Valley, passing through the Great Palm Grove of Skoura, where we can admire over 700 palm trees and the numerous kasbahs scattered throughout the oasis. Later we reach the Valley of the Roses, which, as the name suggests, is a beautiful place where the most beautiful damask roses grow. We reach the Dades Valley where we will spend the night.
After breakfast, we can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Dades Valley. We will do this from one of the most strategic places that the mountains offer us. From there, we can appreciate the number of kasbahs and the picturesque character of each one of them. We will also visit the geological formations called "Monkey Fingers". After making several stops along the way, we will reach the Todra Gorges. Surrounded by a valley full of palm trees and clay villages, here you will find the mountains most popular with climbing enthusiasts.
These faults of Todra and Dades are the most famous and impressive in Morocco. After a hike in the Todra Gorges, we will continue towards the desert to reach the impressive dunes of Merzouga, from where we will leave in a caravan of dromedaries. We will admire the sunset on the dunes and reach the camp. A typical dinner of tagine and delicious mint tea awaits us. Afterwards, there will be drum music around the campfire under the stars. Night in the tent.
"Appointment with the dawn": Since you are in the desert, it is recommended to get up early and walk to the highest dune around the camp to enjoy the sunrise and this relaxing landscape that nature offers us. After a delicious breakfast, we say goodbye to the desert and head to Rissani, the old capital, a traditional village that was the place of origin of the ruling family of Morocco and meeting point of caravan trade from faraway places such as Timbuktu in Mali.
We will visit the bustling market and the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cheriff. Here you will see many men with hoods and women with veils. We continue our route and stop near Midelt to eat. Later, we will cross the famous cedar forests and can admire the Grand Cedro Gouraud, the largest thousand-year-old cedar in the region. We will also feed hundreds of wild monkeys that live in the area.
Then we will reach Ifrane, also called "Moroccan Switzerland" due to its great similarity to this land. One of the animals that once lived here was the Atlas lion, which became the symbol of the city and to which a stone statue is dedicated. We will take the opportunity to take some photos. We will arrive in Fes in the afternoon. Transfer to the hotel or airport. End of our services.
